So i need some opinions on a memory upgrade im looking into doing. so i currently have 16GB of 2166 MHz DDR4, and im looking to upgrade to 32 GB of 3600 MHz DDR4. is it worth it and will I actually see a performance increase.

just for reference im currently running an I7 7700K @ 4.8 GHz and an RTX 2070 super. and my monitor resolution is 1440p 144HZ, also using M.2 storage along with sata SSD's in my system.

so all of this considered would that upgraded memory speed and size make a difference that would be worth it?

What is your use case for your computer? If it is gaming or if you are not currently being limited by the 16Gb, getting 32Gb is not worth it. For the frequency, as far as I remember intel cpu's don't benefit as much from faster memory frequency as much as Ryzen ones do, and as with the capacity, if you are currently happy with how your system is performing, I don't see a need to upgrade.

For gaming, 16 gigs is currently more than enough, though workload?, as for frequency, kaby lake doesn't benefit a whole lot from faster memory iirc, you could just try manually overclocking this kit and see how far you can go and at what frequency/ timings.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

so I am gaming, and I notice my memory usage up near 14GB in some games, and i wonder if maybe i could be getting more performance out of my 2070S with more ram @ a faster speed

My 1600mhz ddr3 does 1866

My 1866 kit does 2133

My 2133 can do 2400

All DDR3 tho.

Would be surprised if your 2100 based speeds couldnt do 2400-2666 (timings on auto for now until bothered to tweak them)

And do before and after testing.

Pretty sure fast ram mainly comes into play at 150fps+ frames and squeezing nanoseconds.... and highCPU LOAD Gaming where the faster speed mitigates some of the heavier drops to be much less frequent or not as jarring when it bogs down.

Wouldnt hurt to test 2133 vs 2400 and if it posts stable, test 2666+

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

In that case getting more ram isn't worth it, you aren't maxing out what you have right now so getting more isn't going to improve performance. For the frequency there might be a slight increase in performance, but I doubt it will be noticeable. I would just stick to the ram you have right now and save the money for something else like a CPU/motherboard upgrade in the future. Like the others have mentioned, you can try overclocking your current ram to see if you would see an increase in performance.

It's DDR4,not DDR3.

Intel moved to DDR4 since Skylake...

If you want to upgrade your memory, you will want higher frequency and lower latency.

3600MHz CL16 is a nice option to buy.

I know, the point was that you can overclock the (DDR3 or DDR4) you have now and see what it can do... if they wanted to.
