Building a friend of mine his first gaming PC. Looking to see you guys' opinion on this build and if there's any tweak you would do before I send it to him. Figure we can start building it now while waiting for the 3070 to go on sale. Thanks in advance.

Don't on for 9th gen, when a 10100 has the same amount of threads

It's an ok build but overpriced and on a dead platform...

First, the CPU choice, either go with a Ryzen 5 3600(or better) or a 10th gen Intel if they want Intel. 9th gen is dead, you can't upgrade passed that in the future, you're essentially just locking them to the 9th gen i7 or the i9 and that's it. I swapped it to a 3600 because the performance gap between it and the 9700k in gaming is minimal, the 3700x would be perfect as it's a great processor for streaming and gaming. Same thing with the board, you can find much cheaper Intel boards with the same features as that Asus. If your friend wants to go Intel the one @gloop posted is a good list.

Second, the Samsung Nvme drive. Nothing wrong other than you can get an identical performing drive for cheaper.

Third, the case... this is one of my bigger pet peeves. As it looks like it was picked for it's aesthetics and looks over functionality and quality. It's an off brand case, with terrible airflow, swapped it for a name brand with mesh front panel that is still aesthetically pleasing, the P400A is also a great choice.

Also swapped the PSU, only because you can get a better unit with more wattage for upgradeability for the same price as what you picked.

Thanks @gloop for the updated build.

@YT_DomDaBomb20 Will do.

@SpookyCitrusThanks for breaking it down for me. Ya I wasn't a big fan of the case myself, but that's the one he chose. Told him to pick out another one. Sent him the one you recommended seeing if he likes it. He prefers intel so we will go with the 10th gen. Any last tweak before I send this to him? He also wants some RGB memory, any recommendations for that?

Also, for $100 more, would getting the i7-10700k be better?

With the money we are saving, we can get him the 3080 instead.
