Hey I have been interested in the new VR push. My questions is how much GPU power do you need? or will it be CPU intensive? also does any one have a dev kit and what kind of GPU do you have. I have a 8350 at 3.8 GHz and a 770 with 2gb vram, which is also over clocked.

Thanks for the help

The Dev version is in 1080p. I've read 60 FPS is fine, but 90 is a better goal to reduce microstuddering or something.

The next version (HD) is rumored to be in 1440p.

I can't help with anything else as I don't have one. Can't wait for the consumer version though!

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

Current dev kit performance won't really be that good of a reference against the consumer model, different resolutions and required frame rates for a decent experience.

For the consumer model, you are looking at rendering the game for 1080p (possibly greater, but thats speculation at this point), at greater than 60FPS, 90FPS was mentioned with VSync enabled.

And the overhead for 3D but this as far as I know isn't that large of an overhead.

Playing at Maxed out probably won't be possible for the vast majority of people, however introducing VR could mean that some rendering features are not required anymore and reduce the load.

And the fact of playing in VR is a far better experience in my opinion, so I wouldn't mind if I didn't have every single option turned to ultra.

Dev Kit is 720p, he may have gotten confused with the latest prototypes.

Consumer isn't confirmed for anything yet, 1080p is most likely but it could be higher.

The NEW Dev Kit v2 will be 1080p. Hence the rumors that the consumer version will be 1440p.

I've not seen any confirmations about DK2 yet either, they aren't really announcing any of that yet.

1080p makes the most sense, but nothing is confirmed for DK2/ consumer model.

DK2 is most likely going to be the same hardware as the consumer model, just with an earlier release date and less refined design.

What kind of hard ware do they recommend for running the Oculus?

1080p I think is too low. It's still not a good enough experience for a finished product, in my eyes. (I tried 1080p).

At this point, most people are suggesting waiting. We don't know for sure the final specs of the rift, so recommended hardware at this point is just guessing.

A powerful gaming PC would be able to push a rift decently, but a recommended build at this point is hard.

Oh yeah. I tried the HD prototype also, and it was certainly very good, but increased resolution will always be a better thing for VR until we hit something like 8k.

1080p seems most likely currently mainly due to the fact that there is a lot of 1080p mobile panels, I can't think of many that have 1440p, but I'd love to be surprised.

Considering the Oppo Find 7 coming out this year rumored to have a 1440p screen, I think it's certainly possible.

That's probably it there guys. I can't remember where I read it, and have been trying to find it, but that would make sense.

IMHO the 1440p resolution is quite viable seeing as Rift has a 5.6" panel, and that 1440p resolution in that screen size is possible now, and will be featured in next-gen smartphone flagships. @TheDigitalRealm mentioned Oppo Find 7 as being one of them.
