Gpu for new pc advice

Enry

I'm building my first pc because my old pre-built has become so slow it's almost unusable and I'm not sure which GPU I should get.

I was thinking about the new 3070 which has a very compelling price to performance ratio, but I currently have a 1080p 72hz monitor and I'm not going to upgrade it in the next one or two years.

What I'm wondering is: should I buy the 3070 which may be a little overkill now for my monitor setup but will be futureproof in the next few years with the increasing use of raytracing in new games (since current games use raytracing only for shadows or reflections etc., but I suppose in the near future it will be user more intensively)?

Or should I get something like a 2070 wich is about 80€ cheaper but has a much worse price to performance ratio?

Do you think the rtx 2070 will drop significantly in price once the 3070 comes out? Because if that's not the case then I probably should go for the 3070 or perhaps the 3060ti if it comes out at around the same time.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

3070 is a tad overkill for 1080p, especially for 72hz.

I would take it over the 2000 series

You could wait for the 3060 and see or buy something second hand

If you're playing at 1080p with a low refresh monitor I wouldn't get a 3070. Just get something like a 1660 Super, used 1070, etc.

But those cards are not capable of ray tracing...

Then wait for the 3060, or similar cards. The 3070 is a waste of money for that monitor.
