I have a friend who has an old razer core with a i7- 7500 blade stealth and they plan on getting a 3070 with it. He said that he contacted Razer support and they told him it was compatible but I was trying to explain to him that using that CPU (it is also a dual core) would bottle neck and might not be worth going all the way to a 3070 if it's only for the enclosure. Do you guys know any good examples, I am trying to see how much of a bottleneck it would be in case he doesn't need such a high end GPU to save him money.

A dual core older CPU may be a problem. If he plans on getting a 3070 and uses a Razer Core, is he against just building a Desktop? He could sell the Razer Core and the laptop(unless he wants to keep it) and build a much better desktop and not have to worry about it at all. Might want to talk to him about that. The CPU he has now may introduce a bottleneck but another problem would be the eGPU enclosure/Razer Core itself. Running a GPU externally with an eGPU enclosure such as the Razer Core introduces a performance decrease even in lesser GPUs, the 3070 may be an even more drastic decrease in performance in such case much like the 2080ti in a Razer Core. If they plan on using a GPU such as that and have an older gaming laptop they are worried about working well with it, instead of buying another laptop which he would have to do since the one he has is not just upgrade-able I'd recommend just building a desktop, it's cheaper, longer lasting, upgrade-able, and for gaming is just an overall much better experience.
