Hi guys,

This one has me truly stumped. I bought a KVM switch and it works fine, except that every once in a while (5-30 minutes), all the USB ports, including mouse and keyboard, disconnect and reconnect spontaneously. All devices are wired. What's baffling, though, is that I tried every configuration I could think of to isolate the problem, and I just can't locate what's wrong:

1) The problem occurs on both computers attached to the KVM > ruled out OS/other computer hardware issue.

2) When mouse and keyboard are connected directly to either one of the computers, not via the KVM, they work just fine > ruled out mouse/keyboard hardware issue and cabling issue.

3) I went and bought a different KVM from a different company, and the problem still persists > ruled out KVM hardware issue.

So I'm left with nothing. Is this just an inherent issue with KVMs?

I should mention that the second KVM actually uses DDM technology to emulate the devices on both computers at all times, because I thought that might solve the problem.

I'd appreciate any advice!

howdy and welcome :)

I’ve never heard of it being a “kvms just do this”  issue before.  OSes keep updating though.  KVMs have become less common because of software kvms like synergy

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
