Is the intel i5 8600k worth carring forward

i plan going itx, am i better of changing platform or just get a z390 itx board. I plan on gaming at 1440p on a 2080 level card from amd or nvidia.

Do you already have the cpu? 

If so, you could sell it and move to a different platform like zen 2 or comet lake, or check what zen 3 has to offer. 

But if that's not possible, you could go with a z390 board and call it a day, assuming you already own this cpu. if you don't, don't bother with this platform, a 3600/10600k are better and are on well.. a "alive" platform.

Maybe, if you plan to upgrade to a used 9900K down the line.

 

But the Z390 platform is dead, so I would recommend against buying a new Z390 board generally.

Depends on how cheap you can get a Z390 ITX board for compared to say, B550, X570 and Z490.

Ah, yea now that i read it again, it makes sense lol.

 

Then @OP, you could sell the current ATX board and check how much an itx one would cost, or you could sell the current board and cpu and move to comet lake or zen 2 or wait for zen 3 and check what it has to offer since this is a dead platform more or less.

I allready have the cpu. I am just worried gen3 vs gen 4 on the 3000 gpu series

For the most part, gen 3  is still enough bandwidth, especially for turing as even the 2080ti only saturates x8. 

but as for getting a new board.
