Compression artefacting

Helping a friend with some issues their having on a gaming rig, one of the issues is weird blocks in blacks in pictures, I want to say it’s just the monitor isn’t up to scratch?

Well that screen you are talking about is just bad and needs to be replaced with this screen.

And make sure its not, otherwise it will break the gaming rig.

lol fair enough, it’s a benq 1080p TN panel, not sure on the exact model hooking into a gtx 1660 at 60 htz

Besides the model of the panel, does this happen during gaming or just the desktop?

It happens on most things that are very dark, was just easier to capture on a photo he took on his canon 5d

Well take a screenshot with pc and check if it has the same"artefacts"

 

If it does it could be the GPU.

 

If the screenshots are clean it's likely the monitor or the cables.

Ya we did that in the end, screen shots are clean, new panel was ordered and will be delivered tomorrow, he wanted to change it anyway so this was the nudge he needed
