Issues Running RDR2

daviden

I can usually play the game just fine with perfectly normal FPS, but then the game will start stuttering (frames will drop 30-40 FPS for a brief moment then go back to normal) every so often. This is usually accompanied by the game randomly crashing. Even restarting the game and my PC doesn't seem to fix the problem. The last time this happened I was looking at my CPU usage and noticed it would spike to 100% before the game crashed and told me to restart my computer.

I've already tried turning down my graphics settings and it doesn't change anything.

I'm not really sure what I should do or really what the problem is. I've had similar issues with a few other games like Overwatch, but only to the extent that my frames will drop for a brief moment.

What are your specs? And did this start at a certain time, or has it always been like this since you first started playing the game?

Here's my current build https://pcpartpicker.com/user/daviden/saved/mcRfrH. It's pretty much been doing this to some extent the whole time I've played (<10 hours).

I'm currently trying to see if wallpaper engine was causing an issue because I just recently (in the past few minutes) got a crash where both the game and it crashed simultaneously and wallpaper engine said it was crashed by another program.

PSU seems to be more than enough, and I doubt thermals are to blame. I'm not familiar with RDR2 as I haven't played it yet myself, but see if some settings need adjustment. I got several graphics crashes in Destiny 2 for a while because my selected resolution was over what my monitor could physically support.

Well I'm glad to have reassurance that it's not a hardware issue. Wallpaper engine was not the issue btw. I'm currently reinstalling drivers.

Well I thought reinstalling helped. At the very least it did for a bit. I played the game just fine for a while, but randomly this morning it crashed again with the same error. After relaunching the game it seemed to do fine again for the rest of the time. I'm not sure what steps to take now, but reinstalling drivers seemed to help a little maybe?
