So , i bought a cheap X58 build from AliExpress for a minecraft server. The PC runs fine until out of nowhere it decides to shut down and this is obviously not playable. This only happens when the computer is doing heavy work. I managed to lower the clocks and it helped a bit but more performance is needed. I assume that the problem is the power supply since its a cheap one from a prebuilt , but i would like to know what you guys think since its a little confusing for me. The cable management is horrible since is a pretty neglected case , i apologize.IMG_2403.thumb.jpg.034a2cf68abf650f9086c154eda0ef0c.jpg

I get that it's an old PC and you only need it to do a simple task, but I wouldn't use that PSU to charge AA batteries.  Never mind a computer.

12v1 16A (192W)

12v2 16A (192W)

3.3V & 5v combined 105W

192 + 192 + 105 = 489

"Total output maximum 525W"????

If it was 500w I might have ignored it but 525w is such an oddly specific number.

(And yes, I know you typically can't just add the two 12v rails like that)

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Replace the unit with a quality psu and all should be good. A decent 400w unit will do the trick pick something from b tier or higher from this list.

Yep, PSU, for sure. I'd say 500W-600W for an X58 system though, as I still run several (with X5660s and X5675s). Also, those Ali-Express X58 boards come with "extras" that originally were not part of an X58 board, so some headroom should be allowed.

It is just a cpu based machine with some random low power gpu in there so really 400w will be plenty.

400W and less, are generally poor value for money, with the 500W equivalent model from the same line being often under $5 difference. OP can then either add more things to the build later if needed, or use the new PSU in a new build.
