Hello:

I was just curious as to some of the forums thoughts on Amazon selling computer parts now. I think that in certain aspects of it, it is fantastic. In others, not so much.

As far as shipping and distribution goes, Amazon is unrivaled. They have some of the best processing & handling on the market as well as great customer support unlike their Newegg counterpart. However, there are a few faults to them.

One of those faults are products like this. What the hell is it? A $350 i3 with an unknown generation? It is products like this that I wish they could filter out, and I also wish that they could make their whole filtration system as a whole similar to Newegg. Honestly, the only reason I even go on Newegg anymore is their phenomenal filters. I have to type in a few keywords, filter out what I don't want with the side panel and boom. I found exactly what I wanted/needed.

I think that once Amazon can follow in the footsteps of Newegg's filtration system they could easily become a hub for Tech parts.

What do you think?

I think I don't like Amazon. Too "Monopoly on everything".

I still buy things from them, but I will go out of my way not to if possible and within reason.

I'm liking Ebay now-a-days. Server parts are cheeeeap there.

No company is perfect. Think of the sheer number of products that are on Amazon compared to NewEgg, and you'll understand why there are mess ups like that.
I think they actually do extremely well. Even NewEgg has errors.

It'd be a lot of work to get everyone to abide by filters.

The i3 you posted isn't sold by Amazon directly though. I wish they'd be more outspoken about this but after a while you learn to differentiate between products sold by Amazon directly and third party ones. Regarding Amazon itself I have nothing to complain about, they're quick at delivering, have good customer service, a very wide array of products/services and even if not buying from them it's a good place to get prices for comparison in other sites :P

pcpartspicker and whatever is cheapest for builds

for random tech stuff (and pretty much almost anything else) where ever I can find the cheapest

when I buy stuff for my car, reputation play a lot more into it than price does

Preference is newegg. I perfer the underdog. I agree filtering on newegg is much better than amazon.

Sure free shipping from amazon is a nice thing, especially with cases, i will take advantage of next day air on a 35 pound(american weight) case, my silverstone FT02 came this way.

Amazon does not have Paul so newegg it is.

What he said^ Amazon provides links to other merchants that aren't necessarily themselves.

Items sold from Amazon themselves are great. I use both Amazon and Newegg pretty much interchangeably depending on prices.

I was aware that the product wasn't sold by Amazon themselves, I was only implying that the fact that they have it on their website period makes it pretty sketchy for the untrained eye.

I like amazon simply because I have a Prime membership so I get $2 One-Day shipping or Free Two-Day Shipping on every purchase.

I used to order from Newegg but now that I'm a Prime member and hold a Visa rewards card, shopping with Amazon makes more sense. Most of the time their prices are competitive too

  • free two day ship (basically one day with Amazon's logistics)
  • 3x rewards points on every purchase through Amazon which can be redeemed for dollars off of a purchase
