I have an old Samsung Stereo from the 1970s and it’s getting a bit old. I’m looking for something to drive 4 bookshelf speakers and a sub that has remote support. Budget is $1000 or less

honestly you can get any 5.1 receiver and run 4.1 on them under 1000. just look at their speaker power rating for one you want

but there are a lot of stereo receivers that support 4 channels (a+b) and the ones i see are all under 500

just type into amazon stereo receivers

Sorry not specifically stereo I just called it that. I would like 5.1+ support as right now it's only 4 speakers A and B with no sub or remote support.

ugh ugh ugh (shakes finger) that is actually 7.2.2 if you want 7.2.4 you have to have a external amp for 2 channels 😛

 

agree thou 1000 price point he can get a lot even a couple of 2020 models from denon and yamaha with hdmi 2.1 goodness

Fair enough but that's still more than his original requirements, so still fits the bill :P It can support 4 atmos channels, it just can't power the last 2 of them.

Yep - I saw lots of different models in that price range with all the features I'd want.

about that..you use an amp on the front 2. and let the receiver power the rest...puts less strain and heat on the receiver since the front are the most powerful. i decided on the new Denon AVR-X3700H and am using my old receiver to power my fronts since it has the same power to get the full 7.2.4

its whats nice about denon and mantz, you tell the receiver what channels you want powered or preamped
