Black screen with low resolution cursor on Windows 10

I just spent the last 2 hours troubleshooting a black screen with a moveable cursor. I had used my PC earlier that day with no issues. I tried all the different methods to get it to work that i could find, a lot of the fixes were assuming there was a problem with windows or the graphics driver. Anyway long story short, I couldnt even re install my windows by booting off a usb, because of this problem. Which gave me the impression may not have been a windows problem. After disassembling my PC, it turned out, the problem was due a faulty hardrive.

This was such a weird solution, i think I got a bit lucky as I had a feeling it may have been a drive. I'm posting this in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation and all other fixes did not work.
