spookytj

Budget (including currency): Does not matter here. Do not wanna change CPU tho

Country: Slovakia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Editing, games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

CPU

Ryzen 5 3600 with stock cooler, not overclocked

Motherboard

B450A Pro MAX

RAM

2x 8GB 3200Mhz

PSU

Some old 550w, need to upgrade this

GPU

I am planning ln buying 3070/3080

SSD

Aorus 512GB RGB NVME Gen 3

CASE

Zalman Z9 Plus

Monitor

1080p 60Hz or 4K OLED 60Hz

switching between them

I just need to know whether my build could handle 3080 without big bottleneck from cpu and if mobo is enough for gpu and aswell what PSU to use since I know nothing about what PSU to use.

750w would be a good target for the PSU. Just make sure it’s high quality.

then again this is RECOMMENDED hypothetically u can power it with 650w but just wait for 3rd party reviews

Agreed, but probably not a good idea for the 3080. It alone would take half of a 650w PSU according to nvidia’s numbers.

nvidia tends to over estimate it

and to add it's not gonna always draw 300+w constantly

My build is super similar to yours! I believe RTX 3080 would be overkill; I am planning on getting the 3070.

To find your ideal PSU wattage:

1. input your parts on PCPartPicker, sans the GPU

2. check on Nvidia's website for power requirements of each GPU

3. Sum it up!

AFAIK a good 550W PSU should be enough for the 3070 paired with a Ryzen 5 3600. But I recommend you do the math. 😃

I have 600W and I counted, I should be fine with 3080, too. 3070, definitely.
