Out of all my years of PC building and repair, I have never had to deal with Bluetooth.  What I am trying to do is add Bluetooth to my PC so that I can use my Skullcandy Hesh 3 headphones.

The information from the headphone box is:

Bluetooth 4.1

Frequency Band: 2.402GHz - 2.480GHz

The card I am considering using is the ASUS Dual Band 802.11AC Wireless-AC2100 PCI-E Bluetooth 5 Gigabit Wi-Fi Adapter, 160MHz Support.

  • Dual band 802.11AC allows control over both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to provide the best flexibility and speeds.

I figured this would work because it says Dual Band but because I have never had to work with Bluetooth I am hoping that someone can give me that final push to go ahead and make the right decision.   That way I could use it with these headphones and if I upgrade somewhere down the road, then it will also support the 5GHz band too.

It also has external antennae so the antennae doesn't sit in a hole like my PC does.

So, I someone could advise on whether or not this card would work, I would greatly appreciate the input.  Thanks a bunch, KB5ZUE.

Dual band is about the wifi. Bluetooth is 2.4Ghz only.
But a card like that is so much better then then USB Bluetooth dongles.

So chances are big it will work.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

it has bluetooth, it'll work.

just make sure your PC has the slot for it. and a place to put the antenna (the cable isnt long from what i know)

but do take note that there's noticeable latency when using bluetooth audio.

media consumption is fine-ish, but it's not good for games (rhythm games especially)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I have a Bluetooth dongle and although the drivers and such are all good to go, the dongle just doesn't have enough "umph" for the headphones.  I have the slots in the mobo for it so that isn't a problem either.

Not worried about games.  Just want to use them for music.  My PTSD doctor says to try listening to the sleep music stuff that you can find on YouTube because of the bad case of insomnia so that is my only reason for doing this.  Many thanks to you and to HanZie82 for your input and help.  Will order the card now.

Thanks again, KB5ZUE

huh?

btw i've has bad experience with bluetooth headphones on windows so i generally recommend avoiding using BT

not only the latency is an issue, the sound quality too.

not to mention issues if you're trying to use it as a headset (mic + earphone)
