Budget (including currency): ~$2000; Not top of the line but on the higher end (If this budget is unrealistic it is not set in stone)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: For the most part FPS games (csgo, r6 valorant) but I also want to be able to run any single player game at high graphics with no problems. I also want to be able to stream from this PC and do video editing.

Monitors: (This isn't included in the $2000 budget but if you have suggestions, that would help) I prefer a dual monitor setup and want to be going to a 1440p 240hz monitor but with 4k and 360hz becoming more popular I want this build to be able to last into that shift.

Peripherals: None needed

Currently have: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/charmander170/saved/sR2rD3

What I am wanting:

GPU: RTX 3080 since..... yeah seems to be the best bang for buck by a long shot (If I am doing my research right the best motherboard support for this is a PCIe 4.0 board buuut I am not certain)

CPU: I have been looking at the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X or 3900XT but haven't narrowed it down to where I want to go

Cooling: I want to do water cooling for this build buuuut I am not sure if it will necessarily be the best for the build so if not, do air cooling; I've only done a little bit of research on this so I'm looking at the Corsair H115i RGB Platinum but if there are better suggestions that would be great to know.

RAM: Probably 32 GB DDR4-3600; I don't know much about RAM so if you have suggestions on stick count that would be great

MOBO: I really don't have much idea about best motherboards especially for AMD since I use Intel right now, so if you have an idea what will do well for this build that would be great. This isn't necessary but I'm willing to pay extra for one that has the option for built-in wifi but if that is hard to do or will make the build worse, then don't worry about it. It doesn't need to be a mini - itx since I'll be upgrading my case to a larger case

Storage: Right now I am running pretty low on solid state storage and am at about half on hard drive; I know I don't currently have a lot of storage but with moving into more video editing and with games getting bigger and bigger, I don't want to have it be an issue. I probably should upgrade to a terabyte SSD and a couple terabyte Hard drive. Just to overkill it but if you think I'd be fine with just a terabyte SSD then tell me

PSU: Needs to support everything and not blow up :) I really dont have more specification than that because I don't know much

Case: I'd like to upgrade to a full tower case in order to gain the most amount of room for cooling as well as enough room for everything to fit super comfortably and look nice. I like on my current case that it has a window. Also the ability to put in more fans later if I need more air flow then that would be good to accommodate. Also this will need to accommodate for the water cooling system you suggest or the Corsair one

Aaaand I believe that's it. If I missed anything or if you have questions, I'll be on top of the comments and will get back to you quickly. Thank you for any time you spend on this. I am just still new to PC building so when I tried to start researching parts again, I got lost and so I came here for help. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

When are you planning on buying your parts and building? Ryzen 4000 is coming later this year and are expected to have a decent performance increase, so you might want to consider waiting for those (no launch date is out AFAIK).

For your cooler, I see you want an AIO but would you consider an air cooler instead? For less than the cost of that AIO, you can get a great air cooler that will perform the same or better and be more reliable because it has less points of failure. However, I get that some people prefer the look of AIOs or just being able to say that their computer is water cooled so if you prefer one of those, I will use it instead in the parts list.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Ok those are two good points that I didn't even know about.

For the when: I don't have all the money right now and I am still ok with using my current PC for a while or just slapping in my current CPU into my new build till the new Ryzen 4000 is out.

And for air cooling: I didn't even know about that aspect of it. I was just under the market assumption that water cooling is better but if it really isn't and is really only better for the look of the pc then ehhh doesn't really matter. Go with what you think is best!

Here is something you can use to get an idea of what you can get. I left $250 for monitors because I dont know much about them so I cant recommend anything specific or give pricing. But if that’s not enough, money can easily be shaved off of many parts such as psu, motherboard, storage, and case. This should give you a good idea but I recommend making a new post when you are buying so you get those current prices and newer parts if there are any. I also didn’t include a windows key in there because you can get one from ebay for $5-10. The 2070 super is only to show pricing of the 3080.

Ok awesome! I'll take a look at it! I was thinking going 32 GB of RAM but I assume the 16GB sticks are just as good as the 8 GB, right?

Yep. Any 2x16gb cl16 3600mhz or 3200mhz ram kit will work great with the 3700x in case you want a cheaper set or one that looks different. 3600 will be slightly better than 3200 but if you want to go cheaper, 3200 will still work great.

I assume that the RAM and everything else should work with the Ryzen 4000 series too right?

Also about the case, do you think I should go for a full tower size or will the mid tower size be ok?? I just don't know if it would be better just to go full now instead of later

It will. But with the launch of ryzen 4000, x670 will release so if any of those extra features interest you, you might want to switch chipsets. Currently nothing has been said so you will have to wait to know.

Mid size will be ok, this case has great airflow. I only know of good mid tower cases. If you want a bigger case, I’ll look to see if I can find any.

Got it, got it. So all we know currently about the x670 is that it is coming with the ryzen 4000 series, right?

That’s all I have heard about it, there might be some leaks somewhere but nothing I have seen.
