Hello everyone,

I built my first PC in May this year, specs:
r5 3600
rx 5600 xt

msi b450 gaming plus max
2x8gb ddr4
1tb hdd
500gb ssd
corsair tx550m
Unfortunately I saw my PSU possibly dying making explosion with white sparks today, I haven't tried to boot up my pc again, the psu is only 4 months old. When I checked the psu there wasn't any smoke and it wasn't hot. I need to test if other components are fine but I don't know if I should go ahead and make warranty claim or try to check if PSU is completely dead.

I should mention I had several issues with the pc featuring BSODs on windows (41 Kernel-power), system freezing while using maps and some artefacts appearing on my screen few days ago on Linux.

I'm not sure that I would blame the PSU for the BSODs.

That being said sparks and stuff are bad. If its not old it should be in warranty, just see if you can get it replaced. Better to get a replacement than to kill your components trying to test it.

If windows is giving kernel power panics I would be very inclined to see the psu as the issue here. Either way that psu has to be replaced and then see what the system does with a new one.
