Another 30 series thread... (psu question)

Looking into getting a 3070 when they release, complete psu noob here so looking for info.

Current system:
- i7-8700k 
- 16GB DDR4 

- Msi z370-a pro mobo

- Corsair cs650m 80 Plus Gold

 

Do I need to upgrade my psu? My assumption was no based on my limited knowledge, I will obviously wait for further testing and benchmarks to come out, but I assumed the 3070 will pull about 250w, and the cpu 95w.
For context I currently have a 1660 but before that I had a 780ti which I think was quite power hungry. 

 

Any guidance appreciated. If possible I'd rather not stick another £100 ontop of the upgrade cost.

Nope. It's a good unit, and more than enough wattage.

You already did the math. As a general rule of thumb, if the power draw is lower than 80% of the maximum wattage that the PSU can provide you're good.

Assuming the PSU is good, and yours is.

Yeah I did think I had it sorted but I did think there was more to it because you can have a 750w psu that's cheap garbage, theres the bronze-platinum system, theres "rails" or whatever all that is, so thought it safer to check with people who know
