a PATA drive?

get a USB to PATA converter, and get the data off of it from a modern device

but if it's left unpowered for a long time, chances are the data might be corrupted.

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

When you're adding the second drive you will need to change the jumper on the HDD that is having problems. Change it to slave then boot, if that is not working I recommend getting a HDD dock or reader that reads IDE drives.

Something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKORD®-Drive-Reader-Convertor-Adapter/dp/B00EQ7UEK4

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | CPU Cooler: Stock AMD Cooler | Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) | RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Zotac Mini | Case: K280 Case | PSU: Cooler Master B600 Power supply | SSD: 1TB  | HDDs: 1x 250GB & 1x 1TB WD Blue | Monitor: 24" Acer S240HLBID | OS: Win 11 Pro.

Home Lab:  Lenovo ThinkCenter M82 Hyper-V Server 2022 | Dell OptiPlex 9020 Hyper-V Server 2022 | TP-LINK TL-SG108E | Cisco Catalyst C2960CG 8 Port Switch | HP MicroServer G8 SCCM Server | 2x Dell PowerEdge R630 Hyper-V Server 2022

yea ill try the dock reader the only thing its doing is booting in master it wont accept slave i think it might be a boot virus but idk the real solution to that one besides using disc drill+dock reader

by the way does anybody know what a HDD making a clicking noise means? i have one that will click and click and click then stop then continue until i turn off the PC

That means the hard drive is close to dying. You will need to replacing it as soon as possible.
