I have a basement with ropes and whips as well but it's really not what you think, these are for working out.

Is that what the young kids are calling it these days?

But yeah, she was writing her memoirs because there wasn't much call for her "style" in the line of work she did any more.

Oh don't be coy, I'm sure if I looked through your browser history I'd find at least one midget shot involved in watersports 🤣

Ok, a lighthearted one for ya @Som3a

We had got in an honest-to-god IBM desktop that was overheating. The system was screwed together with custom screws, and painted shut to ensure only authorized IBM repair guys could work on it.

Well it was quite old, so breaking the seal wouldn't be a big deal, the warranty was long gone.

Borrow some special tools and open the case up.

Mind you this is a full desktop system.

Inside you couldn't see *anything* for the dust,

Take it outside, turn on the compressor at it and blow a small mushroom cloud of dust out of it.

Clean as a whistle.

Except for the giant pretzel stick sitting between two ISA slots.

Had to have been put there at the factory, system had never been opened before...

IBM systems are relics they should be respected and treated better

EDIT: I still have multiple boxes of floppy disks containing video games and work documents that belonged to my parents, still in perfect condition

Well I remember a story, not PC related though.

It was about 6-7 years ago and I had installed this iGun app on my iPhone 4s (White model with glass back) so I was messing around with it and discovered the grenade option.... I yeeted the phone across the room and the glass back shattered (miraculously everything was fine. I had a decent case and a tempered glass screen protector)

I had a client who was a "network admin" at a local university. Like clockwork he'd bring his own (home) system to me, hopelessly fouled up with viruses....from all the porn he was downloading. Used to tell us "I don't care about the programs, just save my 'collection'"

Least he was honest about it.

I recall another university professor, brought me a then-new and very-expensive Gateway desktop.

His son wanted to be a PC repair guy and had systematically disassembled the PC, and couldn't figure out how to put it back together.

So I got a PC case and....lots of parts.

I charged him a nominal fee to put it back together and told him I had some cheap systems his son would tinker with if he wanted.

Guy declined saying this wouldn't happen again.

About a week later, he's back. Around this time in the tech news, there was an AMD Athlon chip you could unlock (and thus, overclock) by snipping one of the CPU pins off, and if the stars were right, and you had the right mobo, etc etc etc, you could overclock the CPU.

Well guess what Gateway *didn't* use AMD chips, but rather Intel ones?

Yup.

Undeterred, the son had proceeded to snip off *all* the pins, one by one, trying to get it to (I assume) unlock and overclock.

He was very careful too, it was a great job making the socket 370 Pentium III CPU smooth underneath.

Shame it fried everything...

The old stories of drilling through a motherboard during a case mod. Classic.

Google images has fist full, I never believed it. Then looked up images, yep. Hundreds of dumbasses out there.
