Very confused.

Go to solution Solved by Haro,

Depends on workload, if you're gaming, a 3600 performs similarly  as games do not scale up to 8 cores. and a better gpu would be more beneficial.

Thanks for replying! I would be doing heavy gaming and probably some light video to medium video editing!

Yea the 3600 can handle light editing easily, a better GPU would be a better option in this case.

You could also consider the 10600k if you can afford it with the 2080 super which does perform better than the 3600 in gaming.

You could also wait for zen 3 and ampere and big Navi and check what they have to offer.

Go with the one that has highest IPS (Instructions per second). Thats what games like the most at the moment.

Does this still hold up with Windows's new governour?
I mean im stressing all my 16 threads on most games now. (but mostly its just on 20% hehehe (1700x))

Well there's more to a cpu than core count, but for the most part yea games do not really need 8 cores.

How’s this build look? I’m going with NZXT because I’m too afraid I’d mess up my own build at the moment and there’s no one I really know who can assist with a build. The total before shipping and taxes is $2083 USD.

Are you limited to that board?

It'll power a 3600 easily but it's subpart at best and it's not worth 200 bucks.

Also that PSU is good just 850w isn't necessarily needed. A 550w version is more than enough assuming you're not limited to this one.

There’s a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite WiFi board would that better and (or) worth around the same price tag? And the lowest wattage PSU is 650 for 20 less dollars.

Yea you could save some money there assuming it's the same unit, if you don't then spending the extra 20 dollars for the extra wattage won't hurt anything.

Yea that's a lot better, it uses 6 sic634's doubled with ISL6617's so yes that's better assuming you're limited to both of these.

What if, for instance, one was not very acquainted with OC and isn’t sure on how to OC is the faster RAM still worth having?

Not sure what you exactly mean by that. But if you want to manually overclock, ryzen doesn't have a big headroom for that and manually overclocking the ram is generally more beneficial.

But if a kit is rated 3600, you don't need to manually overclock it, you just enable xmp.

I would imagine that games are going to start utilizing 8 cores after the new consoles arrive which have 8 core processors. So going with an 8 core processor for futureproofing makes sense to me, atleast.

I doubt a 6 core won't be enough for gaming  and a better GPU in this case will be more beneficial.

And future proofing means nothing.
