I like really close to the ocean and noticed rust build up on the front of my case where fans pull in air. I've taken the mesh grate off to sand and repaint. Should I be concerned about the rest of the system being compromised to rust? Would it be a good idea to get  some sort of dehumidifier or closet dehumidifier? Also are there any paints to avoid?

TBH, it looks like something has been rubbing on it, notice the shiny metal edges.

I'd reccomend using a rust-converter primer before painting. Oil based paints hold up better in high humidity.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Those shiny spots are just the spots I had started to sand off, I sanded off most of the rust and put rust-olium on it , mainly concerned about if this could happen to this part of the pc could it damage other parts of it too?

I mean, sure, it could. Is the rest of the case getting rusty? Applying a thin layer of oil to the case (Try sewing machine oil or WD-40) will help protect it if the paint isn't doing it's job.

Still rust converter primer an oil based paint.  You got to remove rust entirely or it will continue even under paint, and that high surface area created by all those holes isn’t going to be 100% sandable.   I was kind of waiting for this one with the new high airflow cases. The problem with fine mesh gratings is there’s a lot of surface area. They don’t even make steel window screen anymore afaik. It stainless or aluminum, and this is the reason. To make it worse you don’t just have humid air you have humid salt air.  I might want to even treat it like a boat with marine paint and sacrificial anodes.  The rest of the case may have issues too if it’s sheet steel.  There may be other rust spots.  They’re going to be a lot smaller.  That mesh has a LOT of surface area.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

You're right, thanks for the input, I should have waited for your feedback before painting it,  couldn't find my rust solution at the time, I'll take a closer look at the case soon and treat it properly, as for now I got little closet dehumidifiers but that's probably not going to be enough

Rustoleum has its points.  It’s basically cheap thin oil paint which is what you want to use. Seeps into crevices and takes forever to dry.  It’s the best old school solution there was for a long time. It won’t convert the rust but it will encapsulate the flakes.  Not sure what a closet dehumidifier is but the concept that such a thing exists and you have more than one implies a whole lot of “nope” on the ferrous metals front where you live.

Yah at least it's better than nothing, a closet dehumidifier is this https://www.target.com/p/arm-38-hammer-closet-system-component-part-blue/-/A-75663573?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&fndsrc=tgtao&CPNG=PLA_Storage%2BOrganization%2BShopping_Local&adgroup=SC_Storage%2BOrganization&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=m&location=9031293&gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1246978&ds_rl=1247068&ds_rl=1248099&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-af6BRC5ARIsAALPIlWKqHqgkfmOZs2is3ry9SyS-PFXd6o3nB7qblHz55WucNo1KWB4_7MaAi6iEALw_wcB . I'm going to look into getting a legit dehumidifier but at least these might help a little with the moisture around the PC. And yah living right next to a back breaks havic on everything, cars, house railings... I'm planning on moving inland soon though

Ah.  Yeah that won’t do a damnthing.  If you got an air con you got a dehumidifier.  They’re the same thing, kinda. A dehumidifier is an air conditioning element where the hot side and cold side are in the same space. This is what air conditioners drip.

I was thinking of getting an air conditioner lol because I know they can double as a dehumidifier, my house doesn't have an air conditioner only a heater and it can get damn hot here
