In planning my personal gaming computer build over the past few months, a couple of Sabrent SSDs have come to my attention (both 2TB drives): a QLC drive for ~$300, and a TLC drive for ~$400. Does the difference in read/write speed justify a $100 price difference between the two?

Some additional details:

- My budget for this build is high, but not infinite

- I'm hoping to buy two NVMe drives, so my question remains the same whether we're discussing a pair of 1TB or 2TB drives

- I'm looking to purchase a Ryzen 4000 series CPU and a new GPU from either team (I've bled green in the past, but given the industry news I've heard as of late I'm keeping my options open) as each releases

What currency is that? Also do you want to use the SSD as a boot drives or just for game installs?

what drives are those?

budget and what currency is that? a qlc drive is fine if it's not a boot drive but if it is, i would avoid it..

American dollars, and I'll be using it for both -- game installs and boot drives, I'll have a disk drive for bulk storage.

$400 for 2TB is way off. You can get an ADATA SX8200 Pro or Silicon Power P34A80 for $220-250 and those are on par with the Sabrent Rocket.

QLC drives are fine for game installs, but they're not ideal for OS installs, so I wouldn't get the Rocket QLC.

From my brief googling:

https://blog.synology.com/tlc-vs-qlc-ssds-what-are-the-differences

"QLC drives are great for their intended purposes, that is, low-cost drives to replace HDDs in read-intensive workloads. While peak performance can rival even high-end TLC-based drives, their performance in steady-state situations leaves a lot to be desired. Unlike with the quick adoption of TLC NAND in both high-end consumer and enterprise drives, unless steady-state QLC performance improves significantly, we don’t see them becoming a TLC replacement anytime soon."

I'd agree with TofuHaroto on this.

This has all been very illuminating -- I've got an Asus ROG X570 Mini-DTX motherboard, and I was told that the expansion card it uses would only allow me to run two drives in RAID, so unless that's incorrect, I would like some more solid numbers.
