My new Corsair RGB Elite Wireless doesn't have bass

Bass response depends on two factors in a closed-back headphone:

- the compression chamber, formed by the earcups, the driver membrane and your head

- the input signal and EQs applied to it

The two earcups are independend from each other. If the compression chamber would be leaking because of a defect, I highly doubt it would affect both of the earcups at the same time. If you haven't changed something on your head which prevents the cups from sealing (e. g. new glasses, new haircut, gigantic earrings or you drilled holes in your head right behind your ears), they are most likely not broken and work as intended.

Which only leaves a change to the input signal or the EQ. You mentioned you already tested the new headset on a different computer and it sounds the same. You also mentioned it sounds just like your previous headset (after the May incident). This implies the headsets (old and new) work as intended.

Just use a software to boost the bass to the point your comfortable with and it'll be fine.

I appreciate everyone helping out in the thread!

The only software available for the headset is iCUE and boosting something at 0 still makes it 0. It's just stale sound, which is annoying af.

I'm afraid that if I return my new headset i'll just come home with another brand of headphones but still lack any kind of bass.

I know people tell me to get a better pair which costs more, since these are quite cheap, but my Corsairs from 2016 had the best sound system/bass/surround i've ever known.

So sad to have to switch from that...

the issue is, its been tested on multiple sources, so it can't be the PC. The only thing I can think of is the firmware of the headphones.

Whatever your default music player on PC is, open it and find the equaliser, and set bass to max, just to see if it changes anything. Don't use iCUE. You mentioned your brother has a laptop you tested on, does he have headphones you can use to test your PC?

Sorry I still dont quite grasp these basics hehe,

Sound from your PC is in some digital format. In order for you to hear it it needs to be converted into an analogue signal for the headphones speakers to reproduce into sound waves. This conversion to analogue is done by something called a DAC. If you source is digital, (so anything that's not the radio a tape player a turntable or line from an instrument), there will be a DAC in the chain somewhere.

If you plug traditional wired headphones into your mother board the DAC is on your mother board. If you have an external "sound card" then that DAC is in that box and connected over USB. If you have a USB to 3.5mm "adapter" for your phone the DAC is in that dongle wire (typically in the USB connector head). If you have USB headphones the DAC is in the headphones and connected over USB. If you have Bluetooth headphones the DAC is inside the headphones and connected over Bluetooth.

Anyway it's super simple to test if it's software related. Pair them to your phone and check how they sound.

I tried listening to a song on VLC media player, went to the equalizer, used the preset "Full bass" as my choice. I can hear the beats in the song where the bass IS SUPPOSED TO OCCUR but I never actually HEAR the bass, since there are none.

Yeah I tried both my old and new Void headsets on my brothers stationary PC but no bass. Since he doesn't use his PC a lot I gave him my old headset. I mean the mic works and there is sound, so why not. Otherwise he uses speakers, which has bass.

  • 1 year later...

So, I had the same issue. Yes I realize this thread is SUPER old, but it always comes up in Google searches so I figured I'd reply with my fix.

For the Corsair headsets, like the Void or Virtuoso RGB etc, use Corsair iCUE Version 3, NOT 4. Version 3 will restore the bass and the EQ settings work. It's completely broken in version 4 to this day and Corsair has no fix for it obviously.

Version 3 can be downloaded here: https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/downloads

Version 3 for "Legacy" devices, even though these headsets are not legacy, this WORKS and will fix the issue.
