Hey, I'm trying to use a VPN and I am seeing that between the 2 VPN providers I've tried my download speed barely gets passed 500kbps. I average 10mbps before using a VPN. So my question is, Does a VPN usually take this much of a hit on download speed? If not how can I prevent it. Im trying to use a VPN to prevent ISP Throttling.

Are they free vpns? What is the general area you're located compared to the vpn server?

one was bitdefender paid for, the other was a trial for tunnelbear. In both cases me and the server are located in Canada.

Trials or free vpns are generally slow. I don't know much about bitdefender vpn but I don't see many positive rating about their vpn.

Try proton vpn, the free version. I've found that the free version is quite fast.

bitdefender is meh, i had it when trying different vpns out and found its speeds not to great. For me personally nord vpn was the best but PIA was in a very close second
