Hello

A thought experiment: mounting an aftermarket GPU in front of the front intake. Since the airflow direction on AIB cards is towards the PCB and out the sides, I always feel like the mobo gets too much hot air over its passives. Would require some exact calculations, but would the overall raise of internal temp be a good enough trade off to keep mobo passives from the direct hot air? GPU would not be big enough to cover the whole front, probably 50% of the area would be covered by GPU. Air can flow around the GPU. Might not be a worth it, but would like to have other opinions on why its not done more often (other than the obvious exhausting into the case)

a vertical gpu is better as long as its not too close to the side panel (best to be an inch) i think i get what your taking about putting the gpu up to the front fans?

as far as i no there only like one or 2 case that made like 45 degree gpu mounts and one that is vertical i think in one of the cooler master case.

most case are designed for looks and not max air flow. they never build the perfect case because there be no insensitive to make something new so then make stuff bad on them to then sell a v2 of the case that "improves" it. or sell you a front mesh panel.

if you want mnpctech sell a gpu mount to a 120mm fan so you can mount it to any fan you want.

there are case like the silver stone rave that have big fans on the bottom push air to the top and your mb mounted 90 degrees so the gpu is bottom to top. (no need for a vertical gpu) also air thow the ram. (not that it really matters) but the problem with this case is the 180mm fans them self really good for the time but they are loud. and there not many case that use quiet hi airflow 200mm fan and then there the problem there's no standers holes for 200mm fans.( i was wrong about this...my bad) link

the lian li has the best of both worlds looks and air flow. the o11 air give you front intake and the other more looks but you can still mount fans on the bottom and top. they also sell a virical gpu mount all thow kinda expensive.

side note is an open air test bench would smoke any case when it come to temps as its uses the room temp were as in a case it traps the heat. unless you got exstream air flow with = nose.

servers and btx mb were built this way for max air flow.

i found a cheap version of the raven case but you would still need a vertical gpu mount. and the air run front to back.

Thanks alot for the insight. It will be a custom case with plenty of airflow capacity. Made a 3D model of it, seems the GPU is rather small in MIDI tower if you put next to the front panel. I guess I should just roll with it and see what happens...

and 90 degree mb and fans on the bottom wound be really good air flow. if you don't want to do an 90 then with an pcie cable you can move the gpu w/e you want. bigger the fans the quieter and more air flow. dust filters will suverly render airflow.( there might be good one's but i don't no what that is)

and open test bench would even beat that.

side note is anything in front of a fan like grill, filter, or on a rad will also decrease its performance and increasing it nose. each fan added also increase the total dbs.

stacking fans on each other dose increase profrmace.

ideal you want cool air from outside to go across your component and exsit out with out duping that hot air at another component. but most case compromises ether a cooler cpu or gpu but not both.

in my build i got all the rads on top that intake air outside and exsit out the top interfering with noting. thow the case is SO BIG the fans in the mane compartment will probably do little for the mb but there there to make it look cool. un less i add some sort of ducting...

heat rises in theory so cases like the thermaltake core x5 were the mb is flat and the heat can rise should be good too as long as you got good air flow and a strate path. but this vs intake form the bottom and out the top vs in take from the front and out the back could be miner with good fans and air flow. but im also not an exspert.

if you could have and intake and and exist for each pace of hardware but all case cant seem to do this. the thermaltake level 20 kinda tried this but if the flow not right then there no point. with the pcie extension cables and a gpu mount you can put your gpu anywhere now a days.

hmm i found this haha
