Sensible 3990x overclocking guide

Is there a guide out there to overclocking this beast without LN2?

I have never owned an AMD Processor and would like to tweak it for single core performance. It is running as a hypervisor and some of my VMs need GHz on occasion instead of threads.

You don't, It "Boosts" itself based on algorithm of the SenseMi Technology.

At most, you just enable PBO and set XMP memory profile and call it a day.

When you want to go LN2, that'll be a different adventure.

i have enabled PBO but havent enabled XMP because there is some little asterisk on the board that says the 3990x is supported with default memory speeds only

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Prime-TRX40-Pro/

*Compatible with 3990X at stock memory settings, visit www.asus.com and refer to the CPU and Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors List).

I'm sorry to missed this, quote or tag me for quick reply!

I don't know exactly what and how much memory you have, but that board supports up to 4600mhz OC.

The max speed by the chip however is 3200mhz in quad channel. So this is the speed you run if XMP is unstable.

This will increase your performance significantly. I think you should try it.

If the system fails to post the XMP profile, wait for it. Takes a few minutes.

By default the board will try the settings 3 times. On the 4th it will start in "safe mode"

This will allow you to make changes to the bios. Don't forget to hit F10 and save settings.

@ShrimpBrime, I tried 3200 (DOCP Standard) it wouldnt boot. stuck at 2666

That's ok to be at that frequency having a lot of DIMMs installed.

You're about 500mhz faster than stock speeds (2133mhz) and that should yield a decent performance boost.
