The only thing I would change about this list is the motherboard. I would go for the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX, as it has better IO (unless that 2.5G ethernet port is important for you), a better m.2 layout, looks nicer (in my opinion, of course), and costs the same. Ultimately, though, it's not that big of a difference, so if you have more experience with the MSI BIOS or need that faster ethernet port, stick with the board you chose.

 

I'm not up to date on monitors, so I'll leave that to someone else.

He lives here in Alaska so it's going to be important for a halfway decent ping on west coast servers.

I am 100% confused how ping is affected by a bandwidth increase.  

 

Otherwise, really solid machine and what I would suggest basically.  Use SIlcon Power stuff and it's decent, though I am now gravitating to Team Group's MP44L for storage for some reason.

The more bandwidth the better. I learned that through experience (I live in Alaska).

I get that, and can help with VPN use, a that takes a chunk out of your speeds.

 

But there isn't a PING difference in 1g or 2.5g or even 50MB internet at all.

Better connection, lower ping. I upgraded to a business package and my ping on Seattle servers went from 60 ish to 40 ish.
