Display idle issue + questions

issue: monitor wont turn off backlight even when computer goes to "idle" state, my Asus monitor shuts off, but my Acer doesnt, it glows

questions:

1) is it okay to leave it on? it doesnt bother me but if it degrades the backlight or eat into the lifespan then i am not willing to leave it on

2) why does it not turn off the backlight like my other monitor that is plugged in as well? anyone have experienced this and has a fix?

3) i can manually shut it off, but then my applications would all swap around and end up on 1 monitor, how to prevent this?

asus runs on HDMI, acer is on DP

this did not happen with my old Acer monitor that was using the same DP cable

monitor:

Acer XV270V

Asus VX239H

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I've seen people leave Dell E177FPb (2009) monitors on for years with a mostly static screen. The backlight usually dies in 8 years, though newer monitors can likely last much longer.

If the monitor is energy star rated, there should be options for backlight timeout in the OSD.

This is usually toggled by an ultra power saving mode in the OSD.

eh? no i meant when i turn my screen off by the power button, windows will assign the running applications to a single screen, which is really messy

how prevent it from happening?

This is controlled by an ultra power saving mode. It turns off the display input on the monitor, moving all your running applications to the only available monitor. If you're using the Acer XF250Q, it's called Deep Sleep.

I can't seem to find a similar option in the manual. You may be out of luck, unfortunately.

According to some posts on Acer forums, your backlight issue may be caused if you are using the USB or 3.5mm ports on the monitor.

uggh seems that way... when the monitor goes on standby mode my computer treat it as if it's disconnected for some reason

Doesn't exactly solve your backlight issue, but you may want to consider getting a controlled surge protector. This will control the power of the monitor based on your computer's power state.

I doubt this will get you anywhere, but it's worth a shot. Acer seems to have a display widget application available. It may be let you toggle deep sleep, but I have absolutely no idea. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/8168?b=1
