Don't need to be bashful about calling that a gaming PC, any PC you play games on is a gaming PC, including my 1995 mac running OS9.

That socket is outdated and you won't really gain anything from upgrading it - even the most powerful FM2 processors are incredibly weak, so if you want a meaningful increase in performance, you're looking at buying a new motherboard, new RAM, and a new CPU. I also wouldn't recommend putting an A10 6800k in a system with a 300w OEM power supply. That's a 100 watt chip and will likely cause problems, especially if you add a dGPU, which you will need.

That system is running an APU, the A8-5500, which uses the HD 7560D GPU (the predecessor of the Kaveri R5 iGPU on the FM2+ APUs).

Check if the PSU connectors are standard - disconnect the 20+4 pin motherboard power connector (the big fat one) and show us a picture.

This is one of those unhelpful and misguided 'enthusiast' recommendations. Upgrading from 8 to 16gb of RAM on a potato CPU that was slow in 2012 isn't going to impact performance at all.

If his PSU is standard, his best bet is a 3200g with a new motherboard, and he'll need new DDR4 RAM anyway. Might be able to squeeze in an SSD...

@Qwertydop Don't bother with the picture, I checked and it's a standard power connector, which means you can use the same PSU... I'd recommend upgrading it as soon as possible, but it should be okay for this.

You're upgrading from one APU to another, but this one is way faster.
