Hello, so a friend of mine was messing around with me and decided to use my IP address to prank me, he probably found out my ip from a website am a member of and he is the owner of it, anyways, He started searching my location that wasn't accurate and decided to go further by telling me my isp name, My phone, and when i even bought my phone. He probably found out more but didn't want to tell me, and i should have used VPN too.... anyways, i wanna know if he can access my phone and private info since he already know whats my phone and when i bought it.

An IP address will easily tell you who the ISP is that owns that block of addresses and that's it. Your friend knowing your phone and when you bought it is likely you divulging personal information that he searched on google.

Well you probably use the same username on multiple websites or something and your "friend" googled that and tracked down the information. If your facebook or something username is the same as another account that this person knows about they probably found that and found a post about you buying a phone or something.

I mean without knowing how close this "friend" is they could just search your real name without any username if they have that information and scroll through facebook posts or something.

No, no he cannot, that's now how it works.

Unless you have passwords of "password" and a guessable username and no firewall on your phone/router your friend can do nothing.

He's just messing. You can tell from something like Grabify the carrier of the phone (from the IP address) and he's combining that with info on when you bought it, which you have probably already told him and forgot about it.

The thing is, my phone is pretty old, he told me the date precisely which was a bit dodgy tbh

At the forum we don't have all of the information he could have asked the carrier or found a post, etc. Do you know if it's even the right date though?

The date he told was i believe when I ordered the phone, but i revived it the next month.

if he's your friend, why don't you ask him how he got it? all we can offer is vague speculation.

He wants to mess around, but obviously he doesn't know his limits. When you joke you should tell how you found out and not keep it as a secret. Not cool from him tho.

You can sometimes tell the model of the phone from the information that it sends to the site (and the information that it is extracted from is usually logged for other abuse prevention reasons), but not the purchase date. Is it possible that you posted about buying the phone somewhere, either on your friend's site or on facebook or something?

To be clear though, your IP address lets someone see your ISP and maybe your general information, but in itself it doesn't give any more information than that. Some ads and other tracking things on the web might use your IP as a way of differentiating you from anyone else, which they can then use to link your use of different sites, but that is almost certainly not the case here.
