Is this normal?

My cpu on load hits 89 degrees at 100% while using cad and the 3d scanner 

Ryzen r3700x

expand on that you mean with "cad and 3d scanner"  tell me the actual program names.

You'll be fine, if the CPU feels like it's too hot, it will throttle itself, preventing any damage from happening.

Well, based on a a tiny bit of googling, it looks like both of those are pretty complicated software that do a lot of processioning to make real objects into 3d objects.  Right?  I am not surprised you are getting high core temps.  If you were really worried (which I wouldn't be) you could upgrade your cooler, but your CPU only puts out 65 watts of heat, so unless you overclock, you should be okay.

OK, thanks I was kinda worried cos it rarely goes pass 80 degrees, maybe cos both programs pinned the cpu.

it is REALLY hard to hurt your system from heat without overclocking.  Obviously it happens sometimes to people, and we all hear about it, but remember that most people on here are way better at listening to their systems than the average user.  The fact that you asked this question in the first place tells us that you pay attention enough to keep yourself from frying anything.  Plus, most hardware is designed to shut down before it burns up.
