RX 470 making buzzing noise after cleaning the Graphic Card with compressed air

jaicax

Hello,

My GPU had a lot of dust on it, so i removed it from the case and removed all the dust with an air compressor pump, now after re-installing the GPU and putting it under load like playing games its making a buzzing noise ( an electrical like noise ), i also stopped the fan of my gpu with a small stick but the noise was still coming out, can anyone please help me to fix this issue, also can this noise is the sign that my GPU is damaged and can it damage my GPU in long run.

Thank You

How loud is it? If it is decently loud it could be something hitting or brushing the fan like maybe a cable.

Air compressors can be a bit harsh for some electronics and canned air is typically recommended. Can you remove the cooler? Any arching from a loose component may show up as a burn but it could be incredibly small. Also, turn the computer on without the GPU in it to verify its the GPU, its possible you may have bumped something else.

Yes the noise is coming from GPU, i also checked my PSU but it is working silently.

Another thought would be to unplug the fan from the card, could be a short inside the fan itself which would not stop when its not spinning.

Sad, sounds like it may be a short elsewhere on the card then. If its shorting through a bit of dust that got lodged then doing a thorough cleaning by tacking it apart, using rubbing alcohol with cotton swabs, and letting it dry completely before reassembly might solve it. If you find a small burn mark during cleaning then that may be your short. If none of that works though then it might be time to upgrade. Just don't let it continue buzzing unattended though as a short could start a fire.

Best of luck 😬
