Hello, i started having this issue a while ago but now i just cant tolerate it anymore. So when i play a game ( any game ) i have very low fps even tho my laptop handled those games very nicely, for example Fortnite in which i used to have 80+ fps now i can barely have a constant 40-50, and when i alt+tab and look in task manager the CPU is 100% and GPU is about 30-60% used, and if i keep looking at the task manager the GPU goes up to 99-100% and the CPU goes down to around 40-60% and the game starts moving smoothly with 60+ fps as it should be. I tried windows reinstalls, drivers reinstalls and many settings, and i said it might be a temperature problem but the GPU is at 90 degrees which i think its a decent temeprature for a 5 year old laptop. I replaced the thermal paste and got myself  1 cooling pad and 1 klim cooler. I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

The laptop is an Asus Rog GL552JX with a GTX 950m, I7-4720HQ and i bought a samsung 860 EVO SSD and also upgraded to 16 GB of ram.

Looks like it could either be CPU thermal throttling or you've got a really heavy CPU task going on in the background.  What CPU clockspeeds and temps are you running at when you encounter the lag?

Either your CPU is thermal throttling, something broke in it or you are indeed running too many background programs. Though I assume you have looked into the latter yourself.

You said you replaced the GPU's thermal paste. Did you do the same for the CPU? The GPU is not the problem here; your CPU is bottlenecking the GPU.

I just checked the temperatures  and the GPU when is at 99% usage (when i have constant 60 fps because i have v sync on ) it has 89-90 degrees C and the CPU mostly is on 3100 mhz clock and the temeperature is between 80-90 degrees C

I think i explained myself wrong, i changed the CPU thermal paste

What clockspeeds are you running at when you lag?  That's the important part.  It's definitely very very toasty however as it is.

I just noticed that the GPU clock speed is 405 or 135 mhz when lagging and when i have good fps is at 900-950 mhz and the CPU is mostly at a constant 3193 mhz and sometiems jump down to 2500 or up to 3300

Yeah your GPU is 100% thermal throttling.  It should never be at those clocks when gaming. 2500 on your CPU also means that is thermal throttling as well.  Need more cool air boy!

Lift the intake vents off the table maybe?  A/C can help, as can cleaning the fans of dust.
