Hi,

would you recommend a fast, free and adblocking DNS server? (The router is an ISP provided one, so cannot fiddle that and do not want to set up a VM for this)

If your ISP one is dns locked you can't do much outside of configuring each device. In any case the Cloudfront ones are good. Opendns lets you do a lot with choosing and blocking based off net category. It just comes down to what you want to use and how granular you want with the blocking.

Too bad, because then you could set up a Pi-hole (e.g. on a RasPi). Though I guess you could technically run this in a virtual machine on your own computer so no additional hardware needed, necessarily?

I can change my DNS. My problem with the router is that it is a fiber-modem/router/switch/AP combo and the firmware is locked, so I cannot use opensource firmwares/plugins.

I will check openDNS.
