Router vs modem Ethernet

Faiyaz777

Should I connect my Ethernet cable from pc to router or modem for faster connection? Is there a difference?

You need to connect it to your router. Think of it this way.

THE INTERNET -> Internet Service Provider -> Modem -> Router -> Clients (PCs)

The modem simply connects your home to the ISP.

The router actually tells the internet traffic where to go. Without the router your data packets wouldn't know how to get to where they are trying to go.

cheap and easy cable management is my fetish.

Even if I don’t care about WiFi?

Router does not equal access point.

A router routes internet traffic. That's always needed.

An access point transmits wireless signal.

They are often built into one device and called a "router" for simplicity.

A standard modem doesn’t do NAT. Which is required if you want to have multiple machines online at once. NAT is handled but the router.

Most people get confused because most ISPs provide a gateway, this is a modem and router in one box. To many people use modem and router interchangeable, when technically they are two different devices.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
