I have a Lenovo g580 and ThinkPad T470... Both are connected to my wifi but when I run speed tests on both of them, T470 shows around 30Mbps and g580 shows around 0.18Mbps of download and upload speeds... I've tried the test in multiple environments... Also tried rebooting but the issue remains... T470 is new and g580 is 5 years old... Should I replace the wifi chip or something?... Please help...

Well its a Wireless N chip. Im guessing Single band. The one issue is Lenovo is known to white list cards in its BIOS. Meaning if you use a card outside the list, well the computer won't boot. So, Im going to say that newer cards will probably not be in the list. The only other option is to use a hacked BIOS, but that's outside my wheel house, so more of a do at your own risk thing. The G580 must have been a budget machine because it only has  10/100 Ethernet built in. If you can find a list of adapters that works with this computer then you can choose the best one that's offered.

On a side note. If you can gain access to where the current WiFi card is, check the wires and make sure they are securely connected. Because maybe you can get lucky and the antenna wires came loose or something.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Find the exact make and model of the WiFi adapter for the G580 in the Device Manager. Looks like it might be an older-generation wireless-B/G/N adapter. The T470 seems to use an Intel 8260 wireless-AC adapter.

What is the make and model of your wireless router/access point?

What speeds are you paying for from your ISP?

@Falcon1986gave me an idea. Are you using 5Ghz on the T470? Because you could have interference on the 2.4Ghz band. And if one is on 5Ghz while the other is on 2.4 GHz that could explain a lot.

Thanks for the tip ^_^... Hacked BIOS is out of question because I'm kinda new to this whole "Tech" thing... i don't even get half of what you said (I'll google all the terms you used) and probably wouldn't have gotten the remaining half if I hadn't done some research yesterday about this whole wifi connectivity thing and how it works :)... I don't use Ethernet btw... I've got that cloud device with battery from a cellular service provider (I don't know what it's called)... I'm gonna check if the WiFi card is loose or something... Thanks again btw ^_^

The WiFi adapter for G580 is Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter.

I don't have a router... I use a 4G LTE cellular modem... I'm sorry but I'm kinda new here so if you want any kind of information, you'll have to walk me through baby steps for how to get it. (I'll attach a screenshot btw)

I'm paying for 150Mbps but with cellular devices like these... You can only get around 50Mbps at most, considering the devices connected to it in your area. (and that's mentioned on their website)

Please let know if there's anything in that screenshot I shouldn't be sharing with the whole world btw ^_^

I'm sorry but I don't know what I'm using... can you please tell me how to check?

Well, when ever I set up a router I always indicate the band in the SSID. This way I know. It might be in the network properties. Sorry but its been so long since I used my Windows machine I dont quite remember how to do it on Windows.

You could try logging in to the router and see if you can find 5Ghz info there. I know mine shows what devices are connected to each band, but I also have a pretty high end router.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
