RED Digital Camera Accessory Recommendations

I am planning on buying a RED Digital Cinema. I will be buying every part 3rd party, a huge risk but if it doesn't work out I can always resell the part and buy a new one. I plan on buying a Red Scarlet X because it is cheaper than a lot of other cameras on the market. Now for the accessories, I know the basics like the lens and the storage medium but I don't know what else to get. I plan on using the camera on a tripod. Please give some recommendations for the accessories.

I am getting into the RED ecosystem because there is a chance that I might buy an actual 1st party RED DRAGON-X. Based on what you are saying and what I found, maybe a cheaper camera is better because it offers some advantages over a RED camera.

real people know the camera you should get for 6k is the arri classic

sweet 1080p 120 with those colors. (or 2.6k out to an external recorder)

 

(there are reasons to get others, just for 6k wanting a cinema camera its really hard to be an arri)

reds the worst at it. (I'd never buy from them its like buying a BMW, always in for repairs) unlike the arri which are dam tanks

I want to use it for YouTube videos, home videos and I am planning on creating a videography company. My grandparents used to do this type of job as a side gig a long time ago when VHS was still relevant.

that's the thing redcode is a pain to edit. apple prores is easier which is what something like a pocket4k or 6k can spit out. Blackmagic raw is even easier and more space efficient

thats all about res, there are other cameras that shoot 5.7k or 6k that could down sample as well if you really wanted that.

You are probably better off with something like a Canon C500 Mark II, or a Sony FX9. The Canon's and Sony's are more single user friendly, more reliable, and their accessories don't cost an arm and a leg. Plus, the Canon and Sony are in general more user friendly, as they have a more capable autofocus system, so unless you have a lot of experience pulling focus, the RED's will have a major learning curve to use effectively.

 

You might like the Canon better because Canon's colour science is well regarded compared to Sony.

 

But based upon your use case, why are you picking cine cameras for that type of work? You are probably better off with some sort of hybrid mirrorless camera, such as Canon's EOS R5 or R6, or the Panasonic S1H. You'll get what you need for that type of content creation with those cameras, as a cine camera is very much overkill.

I would actually pick the Panasonic GH5 over the A7SII. The Panasonic is a better overall video camera.

The Panasonic can record 10 bit 4:2:2 internally at very high bitrates, has a waveform and vector scope built-in, can take full sized audio in/out via an accessory, and can record in excess of 30 minutes.
