Is it really necessary to update to the latest bios?

Since this particular mobo is new, Asus has just released a new bios for this particular mobo.

No.  Only update your BIOS if you think it's causing a problem.  Problems during the update, such as a power failure, will completely brick your motherboard, so it's not a risk worth taking "just because".

Additionally, with AMD AM4 boards it can be bad to update, because it can break compatibility with older CPU's in order to have compatibility with newer ones.

I know last week I had my x570 mobo do some strange stuff on the latest BIOS. Reverted back to the old one and it solved all my issues.
