Sorry, what do you mean by R3 motherboard? What's the model number of your motherboard?

 

EDIT:

 

Had to look it up, your motherboard supports 16 GB max (2x 8GB).

From what I can tell, the R3 board supports 32 GB max but you would also have to replace the CPU as well.
