Hey guys,

I have been using a school issued chromebook for a while now. I haven't thought to go out and buy a laptop because I used to like going on my PC for everything and I can bring the chromebook home. But now that im working, I have noticed I like my couch, a lot. So I now want to get a laptop that I can do some school work on, watch some movies, and maybe play some low end games on during free periods at school. A key note is that I am only on a highschoolers salary and its the summer. So i would prefer something under 1k. I have looked at a lot of options and to be honest my head is spinning. I have kind of left the tech world for a while now to focus on school and work. So I have kind of forgotten what a good bit of ram is, and teraflops. etc. If I can get some guidance on what i should get that would be great. What would be better is for some suggestions on computers.

And I know i'll be a little picky but I would like something that looks nice and is not a chromebook. Mac OS or Windows is fine but not chrome.

Thanks in advance

The absolute best you can get is either the Asus ZenBook 14 with a Ryzen 5 4500U/Ryzen 7 4700U or an HP Envy x360 with the same configuration.

If you want a larger screen - the Lenovo IdeaPad 5/Flex 5 - same CPU choices.

In the event those models aren't appealing, the Acer Swift 3 with the same CPUs is a great budget option.

Basically, the Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs are far more powerful, efficient and cool than anything else on the market. The included Vega iGPUs will run e-sports games and lesser demanding games without any issue and the CPUs themselves feature 6 or 8 cores and offer exceptional battery life due to the advanced 7nm lithography process.
