i need help with hyper v

hi,

i have 2 windows server 2016 servers connected together with a LAN network:

server 1 = DC server + DNS server

server 2 = hyper v host + DHCP and DNS server

now i got DHCP to work with hyper v to give my test windows 7 VM an IP address, and i can get the dns records on my windows 7 test vm from server 1

now my question is, can i share the internal network card from server 2 to server 1?

thank you for answering!

why not mke server 1 a hyper-v server too? Running your dc on vm is fine.

What do you mean share a network card? If all the servers are in the same l2 everything should be able to talk to each other.

Are the servers on different subnets? If so you'll need a static link setting up between them so they can talk directly to each other.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

well, that is an option.

here is the network configuration

server 1: nic1 = 192.168.1.2

server 2: nic1 = 192.168.1.1

server 2: internal hyper v network card = 192.168.15.1

windows 7 test vm: hyper v network card = 192.168.15.2

now i want to give server 1 an ip address on 192.168.15.X

The 2 servers can talk to each other, but the windows 7 test vm cant talk to server 1

then you seem to hve some sort of nat going on here. Is the network adapter in the hyper-v server set to bridged?

the hyper v server has 2 network adapters:

NIC 1 with an ip of 192.168.1.1

NIC 2 (hyper v internal network) with an ip of 192.168.15.1

Can we clarify, are both servers VM or is one physical and the second a VM?

that internet network is your problem, you need to have a bridged connection in the vms, not a nat or internal network.

Then it looks like you have one VM set to direct connect and the other VM set to use a bridge. I'll leave this one to @Electronics Wizardy since he has more experience with networking than I do.

Did you setup a virtual switch in the hyper-v host setttings?

Are you sure it crashed, it may have lost connectivity to the host

This seems to be a virtual machine, can you connect to the hypervisor on the host

Also if its all running in a virtual machine, why not just run anouther vm on the host.

Try a different network adapter for the vm, that might be the issue here. Set it to something like e1000, or add anoutehr nic to the vm.

That should work as it is, so there seems to be a issue with your nested virt setup.
