So here’s the deal, I’m not “new” to computers but I’ve never been deep into the tech and I want to build a new gaming PC.....

However, thanks to covid I no longer have an office as it’s now my wife’s work from home site. With no end in sight, I’m thinking of putting the PC downstairs on my 65”. I mostly play FPS but games like Assasins Creed and Fable are also in my sights. Even though I have a 4K tv, I’m fine bumping down to 1080p in hopes of higher frame rates, but with the tv’s size I don’t know how much GPU I need.

My plan is a 3700x with a 2070 Super (possibly 3000 series if available by years end, but I want to stay in the $500 zone) Is a 2070 super going to be enough for 65”? Am I so far beyond dumb that it doesn’t matter the size?

If you run the 65" on 1080p the size doesn't matter. In the end pixels are pixels. And how big they are might concern your electricity bill but not the GPU. The GPU just cares about the amount of pixels it has calculate. However, input lag might be a problem in the aforementioned FPS games.

Size does not matter at all. ;) it’s the resolution that matters.

The 3000 series of GPUs and ryzen 4000 (And rdna2 if you want an amd gpu) will be available by years end so I would wait for those before buying. Is $500 for gpu only?

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Then if you wait for the new hardware, you would be looking at something like the 3700x replacement with the 2070 super replacement.
