I finally got to go grab my TB3 dock from work and bring it home. I want to use it so that I can switch my monitor and keyboard/mouse from my desktop to my work macbook with one cable.

The issue is that my desktop is AMD and from what I got it's rare to find thunderbolt support on AMD.

My build:

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19041 Build 19041)
G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600
AMD RYZEN 5 3600X 3.8 GHZ
AORUS GP-ASM2NE6100TTTD 1000 GB
ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) ATX Motherboard
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 GQ 1000W 80PLUS
Asus ROG Strix LC 360 RGB Cooling
2080ti Kingpin
LIAN LI PC-O11 Dynamic Razer Edition Black

My motherboard don't support thunderbolt from what I got 😕

So I'm thinking of switching the motherboard to an ASRock X570 TAICHI AM4 AMD.
It would give me TB3 as well as the missing connector for the front USB-C that is on my case 🤦‍♂️

Seem to be compatible with my other pieces. Got that pcie gen4 for the EVGA SuperNOVA m.2.

I would need a TB3 pcie extention card as well like the Thunderbolt 3 AIC R2.0 which of course is out of stock.
I read the Gigabyte GC-ALPINE RIDGE would work too, is that true?

Is there another cheaper option I'm missing. I saw that the ASRock X570 CREATOR has actual TB3 port rather than having to buy an extra card but it's either out of stock or 1000$ in canada.. ouch.

Hum or the ASUS ROG Strix B550-E .. could use that extra pcie x16 for the day I upgrade my NAS and want 10gbe.

Does the
Thunderbolt EX3 work with AMD motherboard? it does list any in the compatible model even tho they are both asus product. 🤔

Thunderbolt EX3 turn out to be incompatible.. cable to connect to the header has only 6 pin vs 14-1 on the motherboard 😑

From what I saw the THUNDERBOLTEX 3-TR would be compatible but it seem unavailable everywhere.

Not sure what other card would work
