Hi all,

First time builder here. Trying to get a rig set up before flight sim 2020 is released.

I managed to get some thermal paste on the cpu pins. Basically I had the right half build when I realised I needed a different motherboard. I took off the cpu cooler but it pulled the processor clean out with it. Might have had a little too much paste applied.

Anyways, I cleaned the pins with with some 70 pc alcohol but now I notice that the area I wet with alcohol is darker than the area I didn’t touch. It’s been drying over a day so I believe it’s dry, but should I be concerned about the different colour?

I’ll attach a pic for your reference
basically top left corner is original colour. The rest is slightly darker.

thanks for helping a total noob

the tip of removing cooler from ryzen cpu for future reference:

1) boot it up for a few seconds so the paste is warm and runny, less sticky

2) give the cooler a twist before pulling up

3) dont pull directly up, tilt it slightly

probably not, those pins are made of gold, or at least coated with gold

so it's unlikely any chemical reaction have occured

the discoloration is probably residue left on the pins when the alcohol evaporated

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Thanks for the tips Moonzy.  Guess I’ll try it and see. Hopefully I won’t have to remove again 🤞🏻
