Xonar Essence STX buzzing sound with microphone

CanadianMike

Hello everyone!

I was testing JNK microphones with the Xonar Essence STX I have installed. The microphones aren't as sensitive as I'd like them to be so i cranked up the gain, but by increasing gain it introduced some buzzing noises. Some additional info is the microphones have a 600 ohm rating and I used a XLR to 1/4 cable. I have reinstalled the sound card drivers and turned down the gain, but then it barely picks up any sound.

I was wondering if anybody could help with my issue, thanks!

Don't those need a XLR pre-amp to boost signal for soundcard ?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure, i'm really new to audio related things, I thought it would be plug and use. Could you please elaborate what you mean?
