Why does the Windows Store exist?

Go to solution Solved by Alex Atkin UK,

Well for one thing its literally the only way to get access to Play Anywhere games / Game Pass Ultimate.

Its also very useful for people who don't know what they are doing as now instead of just blindly downloading stuff off the Internet, Windows has the option to check the Windows Store first or outright block installing software from elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of Windows Store myself (grudging use it for the first reason above), but I can see its value.

The windows store stays as a pre installed app in windows 8 and above. But who actually need that thing? I didn't find it any useful. And everyone who knows somewhat about tech or software always says not to go to the windows store. Now the thing is that the windows store is made by Microsoft, so it should not be any junk. So I tried to get some benefit from it but i could not find anything useful. Some of the things that i might need already have some better .exe apps. Moreover almost all the apps I tried from it continuously crashed, some won't open and some just got hangs. I also have heard from many people to encounter similar problems. Even after so many problems, uselessness and people complaining about it and discouraging to use it, why does it exist? And why does Microsoft still invest and spend on the windows store? Can I have some right answers? And even if it is not that bad, how are you people using it? And how good or bad is it to you?

I use it.  I haven't had issues.

It exists because it is either profitable, or takes away enough of the competitions profit to be worth putting it to them.

Im betting because the average user who doesn't know much, would use it first, while others (like myself) consider it a 3rd/4th/5th option depending on what is needed.

There are also people that love the Windows store. What's your point?

No, I don't think there are, even those of us who accept its a necessary evil think its actual implementation is garbage.

You’d be surprised. If people like TLOU2, there’s bound to be a community of people that love the Windows store.

Well, I liked the first half and not finished the second yet but still hate Windows store despite what I said above about it.

Biggest problem with Windows store is how it handles its storage.  Once its created files on your SSD/HDD, they are impossible to remove without formatting it seems.
