Buying a new power supply

Van Gend

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a new Asus B550-f mother board along with a Ryzen 3600 but my current power supply is a bit sketchy and I was planning on buying a new PSU as I am a bit scared my old one might affect my new hardware but I am uncertain which power supply to buy as I want to buy a RTX 3070 GPU when they come out but there are rumors that they will have a 12 pin connector, will buying a fully modular 850w 80+ gold PSU with ample PCIe cable ports be sufficient? Do you reckon there will be adapters?

Thanks in regards

@Van Gend - don't worry about nVidia's 12-pin connector. Most if not all ARB's will use the standard 6 & 8-pin connectors; if not, I'm sure an adapter will be included with the card.

also 850w is way overkill. 650w will be enough for anything nvidia throws at you.

They are rumors. And I doubt PSU manufacturers will actually go with nvidea and make a 12 pin. For the most part don't worry about. Worst case scenario. Nvidea does it but AIB card manufacturers don't.

Efficiency and wattage aren't quality.

Budget? 550w should be more than fine for the most part.
