Motherboard headache

AIO: Thermaltake Floe Riing 240mm

CPU: F-8350

Mobo: Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0

Thermal Paste: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut

So, I start my day off as usual, wake up, boot my PC, go take care of morning hygiene. This was around 7AM today (12hrs ago). Around 11 my AIO is delivered, at which point I power down my PC unplug it, and get to switching the puny stock cooler for this AIO...

That was a nightmare. No Molex connector is included for the fan controller with this AIO, even though that is the only way to power it. Luckily I found one in my old build (what's left of it at least) and then all the other problems start.

2 hours in, still haven't found the molex at this point and I can't get the computer to post. I start messing with cables and where everything is plugged in thinking that's the issue... Nope.

It's also not the molex cable (as far as I know). After an hour of switching cables around, I pull the aio out and take out the CPU. Thermal paste on the outside of the outer pins on 3 or 4 sides. 2 alcohol wipes later, they're all sparkly and I managed to not bend any pins. Still no post, so I grab my other motherboard and slap the 8350 and a graphics card in and very jabkily got the wires out of the case and plugged in. Immediate post.

I might add that prior to transferring to my old board, I found the molex cable and it did very little (the fans on the rad would spin for about a second then shut off, CPU LED lit up the whole time).

I gave my board a good soaking in 91% iso alcohol (well, the socket and everything around it). I had maybe an ounce and a half of iso sooooo yeah. Fingers are currently crossed Hoping that this takes care of the issue. If not I guess I'm going to go buy another bottle of iso and let her sit in the stuff for about 5-10 minutes.

I do have a question, would it be best to just air-dry the board or would it be better to use something like a hair dryer (low heat) or a high velocity fan to dry the board faster.

To sum it up. Today has SUCKED... Not sure how it's gonna end either and I need to get a video out :/

that's what I get for not having backups to pull my recordings from! (The storage devices in my PC should be fine... Just can't access them.)

To dry it safely, leaving it out is good I suppose. A fan could work, but at the same time you risk blowing liquid over other parts and possibly getting it stuck in small holes, e.g. the socket.

Also, even though you used alcohol, double check and make sure that no residue was left behind that could interfere with the board again, if that was indeed what the original problem was.

Hmmmph, not working still. *Sigh*

The power cable adapter with the Molex end SHOULD be included with the AIO, as it powered the controller.

If it was missing, you should have contacted Thermaltake support, and as them to ship you a replacement part.

It's not an "optional" item in the parts list of the AIO.

I don't see how the AIO took so long to install, if the instructions were followed, step-by-step...

"Connect the plug int the port in numerical order, start with plug one."

If using 91% alcohol, it is best to let it air dry, preferably for however X-amount of minutes, or X-amount of hours needed for it to fully dry out.

Canned compress air over a hair drier, especially when in the socket pinholes.
