Hey everyone I need some help, just the other day my sister in law's SD card in her phone crapped out and she has lost all of her pictures from the last five months. She's a very sentimental person and it would mean a lot to her if we could somehow recover the pictures. When it gets plugged into a computer it asks to be formatted, we haven't formatted the card to make sure we don't permanently delete her photos. But I need recommendations on softwares to use to try and recover her data. Much thanks

Was it an Android-phone? If so, the card is probably formatted in a format that Linux can read, but Windows can't. Make a bootable USB-stick (e.g. download Ubuntu ISO, use Rufus to make a bootable USB-stick out of it), boot into it and see if the card can be read normally there.

Hand, n. A singular instrument worn at the end of the human arm and commonly thrust into somebody’s pocket.

Yes it's a Samsung s20, and really? I've never had windows not recognize an Android card I've put into it

Photo-Rec and TestDisk. I've somewhat successfully recovered USB stick with those.

The SD cards are probably formatted as exFAT if you choose to use them as removable media storage.
